Why does rock salt melt snow? What you are really doing is converting fresh water to salt water. The freezing temperature of salt water is 20°F. So if the temperature is between 20°F and 32°F, salt (Sodium Chloride) works.
Calcium Chloride melts to -15°F and generates its own heat. This means it will melt snow all the time.
Is it good for the lawn and sidewalks? Our Ice Pro is the "environmentally friendlier" product. Safer for shrubs, grass, and sidewalks, and melts snow down to 7°F.
